About the Animist Artist studio

Well, hello there. Pleased to meet you!

I'm Selma, the creative and founder of The Animist Artist studio, an art and surface design brand created to bring back a sense of magic into our everyday lives. The studio celebrates folklore, fairy tale, Nature, and the quirkiness that makes our experience of life rich and absurdly wonderful.

What does The Animist Artist offer?

When I'm not 'off with the fairies' creating whimsical illustrations with ink and watercolours, I create surface designs as stand-alone pieces and seamless patterns, to license out to fabulous brands for homeware and garden goods, stationery and accessories. The imagery which I love to create is clothed in bright colours and bold outlines, and is inhabited by quirky, evocative personalities.

The studio also hosts a rather wonderful Enchanted Community in the form of a bi-monthly newsletter and online gathering space - this is a place to connect with sensitive, creative folk who feel the magic of the world deeply. I send regular enchanted stories, interviews with whimsical and inspiring humans, and share practical tools for bringing more magic into your mundane.

The intention behind the creation

The Animist Artist studio blossomed out of a pretty awful spell of burnout. Creativity became a healing force which guided me away from perfectionism and performance, and taught me about the inherent magic that hums all around us. Drawing, painting and creating evocative imagery become a fantastically powerful way for me to explore, and share, this healing sense of magic.

It is my sincere belief that the imagery with which we surround ourselves with can profoundly influence how we feel and move through life. The Animist Artist brand reflects a desire to re-enchant our worldview, rather than surrender to the mechanical and detached approach of the modern world.

Through the visual power of imagery, my mission is to help people embrace and lead an enchanted way of life.
